Thursday March 7, 2013 field Trip to the Capuchin Soup Kitchen

The bus will leave Bingham Farms at 9:30. We will return to school around 2:30. The students have been working very hard to prepare for this service learning project. They have done research on three different programs run by the Capuchins. They will interview different people while they are there as well as serve a meal to the guests at the soup kitchen. They will then prepare a school wide presentation about what they learned about the various programs. Our final activity will be to host an Empty Bowls Soup Supper to raise funds for the soup kitchen programs.

Tuesday May 21, 2013 Bingham Farms 2nd Annual Empty Bowls Soup Supper

This is a community event! All are welcome. We will have a soup/chili cookoff as all the soup/chili will be provided by Bingham Farms staff and parents. Everyone attending may cast a vote for their favorites!

If you are donating soup for the Soup Supper here are the directions:

  • Please bring your soup/chili to the Bingham Farms multipurpose room between 5:00 and 5:30 on the day of the event.

  • Your soup should be hot and in a crockpot type container set at the lowest setting.

  • You will receive a numbered card to label your soup/chili with the name of your soup. Feel free to make up a catchy name for your soup/chili (Tom’s Terriffic Tomato Soup, Williams Family’s Secret Recipe Stew, etc.)

  • Please make a note on the card if your soup/chili is spicy or if it contains common allergens (peanuts, tree nuts, corn, gluten or soy).

  • Please bring a ladle or spoon with which to serve your soup. You will also need to make arrangements for someone to serve your soup. One person can serve soup for multiple families. If you can’t do this, please let me know and I will arrange for someone to help serve your soup.

  • Good luck!
